Rock View Lodge
Location
Just outside Annai, next to the airstrip (The Rupununi savannas, Guianas)
Description
The rock from which the lodge gets its name is next to the owner's original house, built in the 1950s by a Brazilian, and echoing (possibly) the crown of thorns. There are extensive views over the Rupununi savannah from the top of the rock. The Dakota Bar is next to the village airstrip. The grounds also contain a neat kitchen garden, barbeque area with outside dining table, and a pretty swimming pool.
Activities
Activities include a trail up the Pakaraima mountains, where at dawn there is often a lot of wildlife to be seen, and there are fine views from the top. Scrawny (but tough) local horses are also available. Rock View is a good base for trips to the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway.
Accommodation
Eight spotless double rooms, four of which have an extra bed near the roof, all with private bathrooms and hot water, and a veranda with a hammock. All beds have mosquito nets.
Our comments
Comfortable beds, a pool, and private bathrooms (all of which are quite unusual in the interior!).
