Nigel Planer in Cuba

Last year we arranged a trip for Nigel (who many of you will remember from The Young Ones) to Brazil. When I asked him where else in Latin America caught his imagination his immediate response was Cuba. He has just written a piece for the Mail on Sunday:

Nigel's visit was timely, coming in the immediate aftermath of President Obama's agreement to start lifting the 50-year old US embargos, which have meant the US dollar is less popular than our own pound sterling and it has been  impossible for US residents to take a direct flight to Cuba. He particularly loved the scenery around Viñales, and of course the buzz (and old cars) of Havana.

We don't recommend Cuba for everyone - hotels (particularly the so-called 5* ones) still suffer from a lack of service and the road network is creaking - but the warmth of the Cubans and charm and character of smaller properties, even if housed in crumbling shells, cannot fail to impress.
