Office news
It was very good to see many of you at the recent travel shows in Manchester and London - there still seems to be plenty of interest in Latin America! Our small team has been rather too busy to do much travel of our own, although Phil leaves for Brazil with his family in April. He will visit Rio, the Pantanal and Paraty, where he will stay at Casa Cairuçu, a lovely and remote private house owned by our old team-mate Simon.
By the way, we are recruiting, and if you know of anyone looking for an opportunity to work in travel please put them in touch with me. They could have a look at the Work for Us section of our website, but in summary we would love to talk to anyone who still wants to work mainly in an office, is creative, with good attention to detail, and above all has a passion for Latin America.
Lizzy in Brazil
The variety of beach options on Brazil's long eastern coast can be overwhelming, a far cry from twenty years ago when Salvador and Natal were the most-visited spots. Lizzy was lucky enough to visit the Maraú peninsula (about 70 miles south of Salvador), and continued to Trancoso (trendy, but is it worth the hype, and inflated prices?). She also stayed in colonial Paraty before finishing her trip in Rio.

Sue in the Galapagos
Sue has been to the Galapagos many times, but as those of us lucky enough to go more than once know, every trip offers a fresh perspective: a different yacht or itinerary, time of year, and measures taken by the National Park to protect this very special place. This time Sue was with a small group on a first class 16-passenger catamaran.

News from Latin America
Two penguin-related pieces of news. Firstly, many of you will have read Tom Michell's captivating autobiographical book called The Penguin Lessons, a recollection of his adventures as a 23 year-old teacher in Buenos Aires who finds a young oil-covered penguin on a beach in Uruguay. Next month a film based on the book is released, starring Steve Coogan (who is not 23 so I will be interested to see how that turns out), and an intrepid Magellanic penguin.
Secondly, the Australis cruise operator, whose two ships undertake a 4 night journey through the southern fjords between Punta Arenas and Ushuaia, have just announced their annual 'Early Penguin' offer of $1,000 discount per cabin for new bookings for the 2025-26 season.

As ever, if we can help you with any travel plans, please get in touch.
With best wishes from us all (and fingers crossed for a break in the clouds for the partial solar eclipse tomorrow)

“Our trip to the Galapagos and Amazon in Ecuador was amazing and the wildlife incredible. We were so impressed with how organised everything was, it really was ridiculously easy for us. At every point there was someone waiting who knew exactly where we should be going, what we needed etc. It really was a holiday of a lifetime.” - ET August 2024
