Plentiful wildlife in the inhospitable Chaco plain

In the west, the countryside turns decidedly inhospitable. The Chaco alluvial plain is inhabited by a handful of Mennonite communities, indigenous peoples and the odd military outpost. But while the people are few, the wildlife is plentiful - dense thorn forest and marshland harbour large cats such as jaguar, puma and ocelot and the trees are filled with a wealth of bird life.
