Hacienda El Porvenir

Location

Cotopaxi (Cotopaxi and Papallacta, Ecuador)

Description

A traditional Ecuadorian hacienda, at the foothills of Rumiñahui volcano at a height of 3,600m above sea level, and just 4km from Cotopaxi National Park. The hacienda has 4,500 hectares of land, stunning views, a cobbled couryard, a restaurant serving good homely Ecuadorian food and a lovely sitting room with an open fireplace. They have about 40 horses, mountain bikes available to rent and there is a small spa where massages are given.

Activities

The hacienda offers many activities including guided visits into the national park, mountain biking, zip-lining, a high wire course, hiking and riding (all booked and paid for locally).

Accommodation

There are 16 rooms with a private bathroom, 4 inside the main house and the others in a separate building. The Junior Suites and Suites are spacious, have a wood burning stove and some have a bath tub, with a shower over it. The Traditional rooms are smaller and have an electric fire rather than a wood burning stove. .All rooms have a safe and a turn down service is provided when hot water bottles are put in the beds.

Our comments

Subject to availability the suites and junior suites are recommended. The staff are very welcoming and helpful, and the hacienda is perfectly situated for visiting Cotopaxi.

Client comments and reviews

Open QuoteWe had a great time at El Porvenir and three nights was just right. The riding was fun (even for us as beginners).Close Quote - MB (May 2023)
Open QuoteHacienda El Porvenir has great charm and lovely staff. The altitude can clearly be a problem for some but we had a great time. We went up as far as the car park on Cotopaxi on the one clear morning and had a 2-hour ride in the clouds on the second day.Close Quote - RS (January 2017)
Open QuoteEl Porvenir was wonderfully remote but a little too high for us. We simply hadn?t anticipated the effect on each of us of being at nearly 12,000 ft. We had a great time up there, and wandering around Cotapaxi National Park but frankly were quite relieved to get to a slightly lower altitude after a couple of days.Close Quote - DS (February 2016)
Open QuoteDue to the height of El Porvenir it can be quite cold so I was pleased that that the fire was lit in the charming, large, ensuite room you had reserved. I managed to climb up to the base camp at Cotopaxi, it is sobering to see the power of a volcano and important to be accompanied by good local guides.Close Quote - JC (March 2009)
Open QuoteThe Hacienda El Porvenir was beautiful. It was in a stunning location, although Cotopaxi remained a bit hidden whilst we were there. We were very well fed and well looked after. Our only complaint there was it was too cold.Close Quote - SH (February 2009)
