From the Lake District it is a short ferry ride to the archipelago of Chiloé, composed of 30 islands with their brightly coloured wooden houses, many churches and rich mythology. Ferries, either from here or from the mainland, form the first link of the southern highway or Carretera Austral.

City hotel - CastroA charming wooden palafito (stilt) hotel with a lovely terrace overlooking the bay in Castro.
Inn/Posada - CastroA simple, though charming, wooden hostel in a converted palafito (stilt house) overlooking the bay on the edge of Castro. Well designed, the hostel receives plenty of natural light and is warm and welcoming. At the heart of the building is a homely open kitchen and breakfast area which opens out onto a small deck over the water.
Lodge/Hosteria - 18km from CastroAn exclusive and small design hotel on the banks of the Rilán peninsula, 18km from Castro. Situated on a hill in 10 hectares, it has been designed to blend in with the natural landscape and is surrounded by gentle hills, native trees and the Pullao wetland, where many endemic birds and marine species can be found.
