San Gerardo de Dota and San Gerardo de Rivas are small remote villages in unspoilt cloud forest with excellent birdwatching opportunities, particularly for the famous Resplendent Quetzal.

It has beautiful views of the forest with self-guided nature walks leading through it, and there is a gallery with local artwork and a dining room. Breakfast is included and lunch and supper are ordered á la carte. .

Country hotel - San Gerardo de RivasA luxury mountain resort at the base of Chirripó, Costa Rica's highest mountain. Intially designed as an artist's retreat the property combines combines a 125 acre private nature reserve with a designer hotel and contemporary art project. The aptly named Azul restaurant is excellent.
Savegre Lodge
Lodge/Hosteria - San Gerardo de DotaA well established and well run lodge surrounded by beautiful, lush cloud forest. The main building has a good restaurant and bar area, with rooms scattered in the gardens.
Trogon Lodge
Lodge/Hosteria - San Gerado de DotaA simple lodge on the banks of the Savegre river, surrounded by pristine forest and an excellent base for bird-watching. The lodge is made up of 26 rooms, a separate bar, restaurant and ponds where they farm rainbow trout (served fresh every night).
