A charming pousada set in the hills above Rio, where the emperor Dom Pedro II’s enjoyed his summer retreat - his modest palace is now an interesting museum. There are 11 rooms, a large pool, sauna, and spectacular gardens with many interesting plants and trees from all over the world. Personal attention from the owners Dona Laura and Sr. Miguel, who speak excellent English. Dona Laura is particularly proud of her kitchen (with reason!) where she and her staff prepare delicious food. The kitchen garden covers several acres and produces vegetables which are sold locally.
